What is CSI?
Computer Society of India is
the largest association of IT professionals in India. Started in
the year 1965 with less than 50 like-minded professionals as a computer
user group. It has grown to a size of 18000 members in a span of
about three decades.
The purposes of the society are scientific and educational directed
towards the advancement of the theory and practice of computer science,
computer engineering and technology, systems science and engineering,
information processing and related arts and sciences. It shall endeavor
to:
Promote interchange of information, in these disciplines and subdisciplines,
amongst the specialists and between specialists and the public:
Encourage and assist the professionals engaged in these fields to
maintain the integrity and competence of the profession; and
foster a sense of partnership amongst the professionals engaged
in these fields.
Means to these ends are holding of meetings for the reading and
discussing of professional papers, the publications and circulation
of works of literature, science and art pertaining thereto and any
other activities necessary; suitable and proper for the fulfillment
of these objectives.

Why should I become member of CSI ?
The Computer Society of India
is a professional body where professionals meet to exchange views
and information, to learn and share ideas.
The wide spectrum of members is committed to the advancement of
the theory and practice of Computer Engineering and Technology Systems,
Science and Engineering, Information Processing and related Arts
and Sciences.
All matters of interest to the Industry and the Profession are discussed
in regular forums held at the Chapters spread throughout the country
at different cities and towns. The Society also has Student branches
established all over the country.
The activities of the Chapt
ers/Student branches, include lecture
meetings seminars, conferences, training programmes and visits to
installations.
The programmes help members to:
a. Discuss current development and applications in various fields.
b. Discuss policies of the government and manufacturers
c. Report professional views to policy makers
d. Evolve standards to be adopted all over the country, and
e. Learn from information pooled in by specialists
The Society also encourages and assists professionals to maintain
the integrity and competenc
e of the profession and fosters a sense
of partnership amongst members.
The Society publishes
- a Monthly "CSI Communications"
- a Quarterly Journal "Computer Science and Informatics"
a. Individual Members will receive CSI Communications and Computer
Science and Informatics free of charge.
b. Student Members will receive CSI Communications free of charge.
c. Institutional Nominees will receive CSI Communications and the
Institutions will receive Computer Science and Informatics free
of charge.
Besides the activities held at the chapter and Student Branches,
the Society also conducts periodic conferences, seminars at Regional
and Divisional levels.
The Society conducts biannually a National Standard Test for Programming
Competence (NSTPC) both at the Entry level and Advanced stage. In
addition it also holds National Standard Test in Advanced Modules
like Systems Analysis and Designs, Data Communication and Networking,
Operating System Principles and Database Management Systems.
An important activity of the Computer Society of India is its Annual
Convention with appropriate themes, which get highlighted through
theme sessions and key note addresses. Alongside the Convention,
the Society also conducts a
n exhibition, which endeavors to bring
in the Manufacturers and system Developers to exhibit their wares
to the professionals at the Convention. The Society organises various
panel discussions and the results are compiled so that they can
be protected as the views of CSI at appropriate forums.
The Computer Society of India represents the Indian community
in the International Federation of Information processing (IFIP)
since 1974. The Society has representatives in all the Technical
Committees and some of the Working Groups of IFIP and also organised
IFIP sponsored events and conferences in India.
The Society is also a member of the South East Asian Regional Computer
Conference (SEARCC) since 1976. CSI selects students each year to
participate in the International software Programming Competition
for students organised as a part of South East Asian Regional Computer
Conference.
The Society has reciprocal
membership arrangement with the British
Computer Society (BCS) and the Australian Computer Society (ACS)
and IEEE Computer Society.
The Society is responsible for selection of candidates in India
for the CICC Training Course in Japan. In addition to these courses
members of the Society can participate in the computerization essays
contests.
The Government has also entrusted the Computer Society of India
with the task of training the handicapped so as to provide career
opportunities for the blind in Computer related activities.

How to be a member?
Any computer professional is
eligible to become a member of CSI. Online form is available for
new membership.
Printed forms are available on request to CSI .
Duly filled-in form along with the applicable subscription fee and
one time joining fee any can be sent to the CSI. It may take about 4-6
weeks to process the application and inform the individual about
the membership with the society.

General Instructions :
1. The information should be filed in BLOCK LETTERS (in English)
2. The Date of Birth, Qualification and Experience must be supported
by photocopies of the Certificates. The original Certificates should
not be attached.
3. The Nominees of the Institutional Member must send their individual
forms duly filled. Photocopies of the
Individual Application form may be used, if needed.
4. An application for Student Membership must be supported by a
bonafide certificate signed by the Principal of a University affiliated
college.
5. Entrance fee applicable for new members only.
6. Rebate of 10% of fee on life membership for those who are CSI
voting members for minimum 10 years.
7. The fees are subject to review from time to time.
8. Money Orders, Indian Postal Orders or Cash will not be accepted
for payment of fees.
9. Foreign Members - Add US$ 20 for airmail.
10. On the BACK SIDE LEFT HAND TOP CORNER of the cheques / Demand
Drafts the following details are to be written.

11. In case, the subscription fees are sent through the chapters,
then the records will be updated only on the receipt of the communication
from the chapter.
12. Cheques / Demand Draft should be drawn in favor of 'COMPUTER
SOCIETY OF INDIA' and should be sent directly to the Executive Secretary,
Computer Society of India, 122, T.V. Industrial Estate, S.K. Ahire
Marg, Mumbai - 400 025, INDIA.

How to submit an article for publishing
in CSI-communications?
Please send electronically
the softcopy of the paper you wish to publish in CSI Communications,
which will thereafter be forwarded to the Editor for his review
and comments. Once the Editor has approved the article then it will
be printed in any of the forthcoming issues of CSIC depending on
space.
